Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray: LRV, Undertones and a Little More

When I’m looking for a slightly warm neutral paint color with a bit more body and depth, Rockport Gray is one of the FIRST colors I think of. Why? Well, let’s find out.

What type of paint color is Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray? Is it warm or cool?

While its NAME actually SAYS gray, Rockport Gray has more warmth to it, putting it well into the greige end of things, making it a WARM paint color.

If you have north-facing light, you might see Rockport Lean a bit grayer, without going legit gray or cold. With south/west light, Rockport can lean CONSIDERABLY warmer as it reflects those warm sun rays back at you!

What’s the LRV of Rockport Gray?

With its LRV of 35.65, Rockport Gray is a medium depth paint color. This depth means its NEVER used for whole homes and more commonly used in single rooms, on feature walls, cabinets, exteriors and doors.

What are the undertones of Rockport Gray? Will it look gray, green or purple?

While at times, Rockport Gray can look more or less neutral, it actually has a green undertone.

Is Rockport Gray a good color for the exterior of my home? 

YES! I mean, of course, it depends on your roof, stone and brickwork, but Rockport is often a GREAT choice for an exterior because of its flexibility. Just keep in mind that it can look WARMER than you’d expect on the exterior compared to some interior walls.

What type of paint colors look good with Rockport Gray?

Being an earth-toned paint color, Rockport Gray is inclined towards colors that are that bit more muted and grounded, such as…

• Darker gray-blue blends as well as gray-green blends
• Muted tan paint colors, especially ones with a minor green undertone
• Rockport isn’t super happy with lighter cool gray paint colors – they’re too cold for it and even greige is a hard stretch
• Some warm gray paint colors, as long as they’re not in the same room as each other
