How would you compare Cheviot to Simply white? Both seem bright with some yellow tucked in.

Cold foam and Cheviot are really up my alley and fill in some gaps between some of the other SW and BM whites. Hey Jill – TELL ME ABOUT IT! It’s like, if you want people to buy your paint, make it easy to sample, right??!!

Anyway, orange-beigey tile floor can be fussy with whites, which is why a lot of people head to the off-whites like BM Maritime White, SW Moderate White and SW Divine White. As for WHITE, there just isn’t a great one with orange undertones. Your best bet could be BM White Dove, but even that can be touchy with beige :).

Hi Kylie, Thanks so much for the information about SW Emerald Designer whites. I looove the colors in the whole line. It’s annoying though that we can’t get samples —I’ve asked at several stores. I will order the wall stickers through samplize using your link but wondering if you have initial thoughts about a white or a neutral in that line that would do well with orange toned honey oak trim & orange beige-y tile floor? (Just bought a house and plan to renovate, but for now I’m just trying to work with what is here.) Thank you for all your insights. I just discovered your blogs and I’ve already sent many of my friends to it!

I fell in love with Cold Foam but unfortunately the Sherwin Williams store doesn’t let you purchase samples of this color. They only sell it in the gallon Emerald designer cans. The store tried to match it for me from their sample book and it turned out a darker yellow and looked nothing like the Samplize sample. Super frustrating to have to rely on Samplize or pay over $100 to sample when making such a huge investment painting an entire interior of a house.

Hi Kylie,
I have been obsessively reading all of your posts trying to find the right paint color for my room. I also have acquired quite the stock pile of samples from samplize. I was so positive I wanted a warm cream paint. My room has south and west facing light and everything was glowing yellow. I started trying more “whites”. Finally after stumbling on this post I tried cold foam. And oh my! It’s perfect and honestly the prettiest color paint I’ve ever seen. I never thought I’d say that about a white. I was ready to go with pure white for my downstairs but I think I’m going to just paint my whole house in cold foam. Thanks!!!

Hey Armando! Whites are tricky, not just PUre White. USUALLY, it’s a 1 coat of primer/2 coats of paint OR 3 coats of paint situation. I’m looking forward to technology that comes along that IMPROVES how well white paint colors cover – they just have so little tint in them, there’s not much for coverage!

Hey Kylie,

Love all your content. It’s so informative and helped me a lot.

I recently painted my white home with Sherwin Williams Pure White (Emerald). I love the look of the final product, but it’s was a bit of a nuisance. I had to roll my walls 3-4 times to get a full white coat and prevent the halo effect from the brush cut in.

Is 3-4 coats unusual to get the full coverage of this paint?

I used a good brand 10mm nap roller. I painted over a previous light gray colour I initially painted the interior with a month ago.

Kylie you DO NOT KNOW how helpful your sight has been during this entire home building process. We are building 30 minutes from where we live currently so getting out to the new house (north facing open concept) in natural light was so hard. My first thought was alabaster but then at night I loved cheviot (now I understand why). This review is the most accurate thing I’ve read and why when I got to see it all primed that White Snow is the choice we are going with!

Thank you SOOOOO much for this review, girl! I have been trying to get more info on these newer SW colors, especially the whites, and this helped me a TON. I am now going to paint all of my bedrooms & bonus room White Snow, using High Reflective White for the ceilings, doors, & trim. I will pick out accent wall colors later, but I just wanted to get a base coat down for now. I have a 2003 McMansion and it needs some major updating lol.
Do you think the HRW & White Snow will look ok together?
